Math The Mathematical Games of Martin Gardner - Lecture # 126

Professor Benjamin V.C. Collins, UW-Platteville Martin Gardner’s “Mathematical Games” column ran in Scientific American for 30 years, from 1956 to 1986. These columns were collected into fourteen books which included extensive new material. Through the books and columns, Gardner influenced a generation of young people—including me—to begin to think mathematically. I’m proud to be able to provide a little taste of the many, many topics that he covered, and I hope that I will help to inspire more another generation of future mathematicians. Ben Collins has been a member of UW-Platteville Mathematics Department since 2000. In 11 years at UWP, he has taught 17 different courses. Among his favorites are History of Math, Discrete Math, Calc II, and Elementary Statistics. An avid crossword puzzler, he knows the name of Bambi _s aunt and the sequel to Typee. Questions?
